The Dungeon Birds - Dramatis personae 3

Nimue

(Picture is from Deviantart)

Stand-offish, hot-headed, unpredictable and ferociously bad-ass, this Woad rebel grew up with Guinevere, who is her best friend. After Guinevere vanished it was Nimue who went to find her, unfortunately getting herself caught by Marius' soldiers in the process. A passionate fighter for the freedom of her people from Roman as well as Saxon rule she also has a very straightforward idea of honour. She has nothing against the knights as such, but will not hesitate to do whatever it takes to free her country. Stubborn and loyal, restless, erratic and blunt she has a special talent for almost always taking things that one step too far that throws others off and offends them.

Maeve

Maeve is one of the villagers of Marius' estate. Succeeding her mother as the community's healer she was soon targeted by Marius' monks and soldiers and put in the dungeon along with her little brother Lucan, because she would not relinquish her `pagan´ treating practices. Dagonet soon becomes her main fixture in the group, filling the role of her late father for a while. She is very devoted to her profession, but otherwise a very timid and shy person. Lady Fulcinia recognized her talent and secretly taught her reading and writing, Latin and Greek and helped her to study the works of Hippocrates and Galenos. Maeve wears her heart on her sleeve and is the most feminine and reserved of the Dungeon Birds. She always values another's well being higher than her own and is known to be very protective and self-sacrificing.

Iosante

(picture: "Ivy" by Verlis on Deviantart)

The older of Lancelot's little sisters, you might remember her giving him a self-made talisman pendant when he was taken into Roman service. She was later captured and sold as a slave, slowly making her way across the Roman Empire, passing the eternal city itself and eventually ending up in Briton, Marius Honorius' dungeon to be precise. This proud Sarmatian warrior can be as stubborn and quick-tempered as they come as well as caring and spirited. In the dungeon she befriends the Briton healer Maeve and the captured Woad rebel Guinevere. Honour and the values of her people are her anchor and highest ideal, nevertheless she does not wish to see anyone she cares about harmed. It is advisable not to get on her bad side, for she is known to be very vindictive and ruthless when crossed.
